The Beginning...
My Name is Olivia, I was born Salt Lake City, Utah in the spring of 1993.
I've always had a very deep connection to nature from a young age.
I loved the way the air felt on my skin, the smell of the earth and the sun giving me kisses. I could loose time in the back yard for hours simply being. My Mother, Father, and Sister would take on hikes up the canyons out of Salt Lake City; many of my photos are shot here. When I was a little girl my mother would take me down to the sacred desert in southern Utah. Zion National Park is the place I first felt my deep connection to the earth. I have carried out the tradition ever since, visiting Moab, Canyonlands, Arches, Zion and more to come. The desert has always held sacred experiences for me, the rocks and rivers have taught me much. Nothing is permanent, the only constant is the shifting, We all are divine beings and we are infinitely connected to all that exists, our greatest illusion is our separateness. Our surroundings mold us, I believe we are meant to live close to the earth, we are meant to live in peace with all creation, as it is a part of us. We are meant to give back to the earth, and stop striping it of resources. Modern day western culture lives in mass amounts of excess, consumerism and cooperation's driving everything. We are taught from the ground up we are not complete, we are less, and we must compete and conform to get ahead in the world. We are taught to compare, to desire, to not express who we are, we are programmed to feel empty, and that happiness is on the outside. The good news is we can change, we can learn to be present and connected to the love that is so readily available for us. It starts with yourself, It starts with going out there, be wild, be free, be you. Whatever environment you surround yourself with is going to have a huge impact on your thoughts and feelings. Thoughts create reality. Go back to the earth, Clear your mind, and just feel your breath. The vibration of the neutralizing energy of nature will heal you. This is my inspiration with my art, I hope capture a feeling in my photos that inspires people to get back to their center, to go out in nature an just be.
Going deeper into my paintings, Nature has had a huge influence on this as well, as most my paintings try to encompass an emotion of release, or wholeness. Taoism really themes most of my work, I try to create an image of both light an dark and how they create each other. I also have to give a lot of credit to my mother, she encouraged me to paint and embrace my artist nature, bought me supplies and always complimented my work. My dad was also a great influence, dragging me to the Utah Arts Fest when I was 12 and didn't realize how cool it was. Painting came a great outlet for me to express particularly my darker emotions. Death and loss has been a huge theme throughout my life, given the name Acallar by yogi at age 8, meaning conquer of death and time. You will see this leak into a lot of my paintings. The beauty of loss is you really learn to let go.
